General Policy

The Port of Portland will control the exchange, storage, and use of selected personal information about site visitors as described in this policy. Anonymous information in the nature of site usage statistics may be shared with others for any purpose.

The Information Collected

The Web site collects and retains two kinds of information about site visitors: anonymous information that is collected automatically and does not identify any specific user, such as log on time and pages on the site that are visited, and certain personally identifiable information about users, such as their names, addresses and e-mail addresses that are submitted voluntarily. Both types of information are collected in order to improve user access, navigation, communication, and services. This information may be collected and retained automatically and voluntarily in databases.

The collection of anonymous or non-personal information about users occurs mostly through standard analysis of the Web-server log files. This information is used to closely monitor which areas of the Web site are used most and to determine which areas need improvement. This information is used exclusively in aggregate form so that the site can continue to be improved.

Personally identifiable information is only used to fulfill the purpose of the user’s interaction with the Port of Portland, or to provide users with services or products requested by the user. If the purpose of the user’s interaction with the Port of Portland is to provide information to a specific third party, the Port will use the information as directed by the user. If we are required to provide notice to you of a data security breach, the notice will be provided in electronic form to the e-mail address you have provided to us.
